Social Media and Diabetes Building Bridges Through Collaboration and Consensus

Building Collaboration

This article, Building Bridges Through Collaboration and Consensus: Expanding Awareness and Use of Peer Support and Peer Support Communities Among People With Diabetes, Caregivers, and Health Care Providers, is published in a special issue of Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, titled Social Media and Diabetes. It details the development of collaboration between the diabetes peer support communities and the American Association of Diabetes Educators. The goal of this ongoing effort is to disseminate the value of peer support for people with diabetes and their caregivers. It was written by myself and a colleague who co-led this peer support initiative. In addition, it covers how and why peer support should be recommended by diabetes healthcare providers and how to refer people to and encourage them to use peer support in the management of the challenges of managing diabetes.  Click here to link to the abstractEmail me if you want info on how to access the complete article.
