Diabetes The New Type 2Diabetes The New Type 2, with the subtitle Your Complete Handbook to Living Healthfully with Diabetes Type 2 is a completely revised and updated version of one of the first-ever books written by people with diabetes for people with diabetes, Diabetes Type 2 & What to Do, by June Biermann and Barbara Toohey. The new addition to this edition is the one, the only, the original Virginia Valentine, CNS, CDE. Virginia is a well known Clinical Nurse Specialist and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Virginia is well ensconced as a knowledgeable and respected expert in the science and management of diabetes. She also has dealt with her type 2 diabetes and weight challenges for decades. She openly shares the details of and thoughts about her challenges throughout the book and banters with June and Barbara about their challenges through even more years.

The book is written using a Q and A format. June and Barbara ask the questions along with providing bits of sage advice and wisdom. They offer up plenty of stories, often with twists of humor. Valentine answers the questions and smoothly weaves up to date science with practical management strategies and how-to advice. She shares plenty of anecdotes and practical pearls from her interactions with clients with diabetes.

Diabetes The New Type 2 covers just about all the topics you'd imagine, from what is type 2, to medications, record keeping, exercise, food and meal planning, decreasing common risk factors and the less frequently covered topics related to the emotional side of diabetes and, as the book calls it, the Dollars and Nonsense, of taking care of diabetes, and much more.

The best parts of Diabetes The New Type 2 is that it's engaging and easy to read. It blends up to date science with reality and mixes in a heavy dose of humor. Levity is good medicine when managing diabetes day after day!
