Positive Vibes from USDA's Vilsack

According to a heart warming article in the Washington Post (2/5/09) the new USDA Secretary - Tom Vilsack, is taking a broad view of his goals and roles at USDA. He is talking of his interest in more nutritious foods in schools, more fruits and vegetables for WIC recipients and the importance of educating school administrators, parents and children about the importance of healthy eating and nutritious foods. Let's watch what he does on his watch at USDA....hopefully he'll walk the walk and not just give these pressing issues lip service.

Check out a program in Northern Virginia that I'm involved in - Tipping the Scales (aka Northern VA Healthy Kids Coalition). It's a group of interested stakeholders and residents who believe that together WE CAN make a difference in the lives of children by engaging the Northern Virginia community in collaborative, family-focused efforts to promote better health for children of all ages.
