Making Lemonade from Lemons: Meet the Osers, for Whom Diabetes is a Family Affair

Over the many years I’ve spent counseling and working with people with diabetes I’ve met many VERY inspiring people…people who have, as the expression goes, Made Lemonade from Lemons. Working with Tandem Diabetes Care, I’m profiling people who’ve taken the diagnosis of diabetes and are applying optimism and positivity to give back to their community. They’re showing the world just how well people with diabetes can live. In this blog I interview Sean and Tamara Oser, for whom diabetes eventually became a family affair. Sean and Tamara are both family medicine physicians. Sean was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 18 years old, well before he met Tamara. Jessica Oser, their 17 year old fraternal twin daughter, was diagnosed ten years ago. A principle all of the Osers live by is, “Diabetes never stops us from living our dreams.” Marrying their personal experiences with their desire to help advance scientific knowledge about peer support, they’ve already published several papers referenced in this blog with, I’m sure, many more to come.
