In this commentary for Today’s Dietitian, I define peer support, discuss the growing emphasis in diabetes care of emotional support/mental health. Perhaps most importantly, I offer tips to clinicians for making referrals to peer support. The article ends with three first person real-life testimonials from people with or affected by diabetes about the role peer support has played/plays in their diabetes management.
