Peer Support Today's Dietician

Read my first person account of why I believe (and research increasingly shows), that peer support in diabetes care (for people with and their circle of supporters) is so vital. It’s an important part of helping people with diabetes get and stay healthy in body and mind. In this commentary for Today’s Dietitian, I define peer support, discuss the growing emphasis in diabetes care of emotional support/mental health. Perhaps most importantly, I offer tips to clinicians for making referrals to peer support. The article ends with three first person real-life testimonials from people with or affected by diabetes about the role peer support has played/plays in their diabetes management.  Read here for the magaizine version. A text version with reference is available here.
