Just the facts: What you and your clients need to know about low/no-calorie sweeteners

This ADCES In Practice journal article starts, “Despite their proven safety and benefits, which includes glycemic and weight management, use of low- and no-calorie sweeteners remains a hot topic among HCPs and consumers.” This article, with research study results, aims to dispel several myths about the safety and efficacy of low- and no-calorie sweeteners, despite significant differences in their structures, metabolism and taste. We mention the guidance in the Dietary Guidelines (once again!) to reduce added sugars and suggest how HCPs should read the literature carefully (and that’s not media headlines!) to help consumers determine how to use these sweeteners to reduce consumption of added sugars.
